Greetings,

18 people enjoyed a crisp morning walk along a part of the Glade Stream Valley
Trail, aka "Sapsucker Woods", in Reston. Lore has it this area is named
"Sapsucker Woods" because it is where the first YELLOW BELLIED SAPSUCKER was
found during a Reston Winter Bird Count. This was one of the regular walks
co-sponsored by Reston Association, Audubon Society of Northern Virginia, and
The Bird Feeder.

In addition to finding the namesake bird, YELLOW BELLIED SAPSUCKER, the
following species were noted:

TURKEY VULURE--3
RED TAILED HAWK--1
MOURNING DOVES--5
RED BELLIED WOODPECKER--at least 8
NORTHERN FLICKER--heard

YELLOW BELLIED SAPSUCKER--1

branches of a Poison Ivy vine while eating the berries.

CAROLINA CHICKADEE--12

HERMIT THRUSH--3
AMERICAN ROBIN--9 Also enjoying the Poison Ivy berries
YELLOW RUMPED WARBLER--3

SONG SPARROW--1

Right after we got back home, we spotted a BROWN CREEPER going up one of the
trees in our backyard.
