My family went boating on the Chickahominy River, west of Williamsburg, this
past Saturday from the boat landing at Route 5 north past the Chikahominy
River WMA. There were LAUGHING GULLS and FORSTER'S TERNS seen along the
river, as well as several adult BALD EAGLES. On the east side of the river,
near Gordon's Island, a RIVER OTTER was observed briefly. It was a nice day
to be outside and the fall colors were quite pretty. A MARSH HAWK flew over
the river at one point and several flocks of RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS and
COMMON GRACKLES were seen. Ducks included RING-NECKED DUCKS, RUDDY DUCKS,
MALLARDS, BLACK DUCKS, and a female HOODED MERGANSER that was unable to fly.
