Subject: Le Conte's today YES!

Hi Kurt --

Since no one else has posted,I thought I'd better email you so you can
forward to VA Birds (I only read it on Siler's page). I think only three of
us saw the sparrow this morning, Barry, myself and Wallace Kornack (?) from
DC (back for a second look after seeing it Fri.) -- not any of the VA
birders unless it re-showed later. We saw it at about 7:50, just north of
the intersection of Locust and Bay View -- a bunch of us were standing about
opposite the "no entry" sign. We had been there since 7 am (o as soon as the
gates opened and we could get there!) -- after a lot of waiting Wallace
mentioned that the bird came up yesterday after someone started pishing so I
thought, well, what the hell... and pished a few times in the general area
it was seen on Friday. I must admit I was totally flabbergasted when it
popped up, and sat up for a good albeit brief look. Bary and Wallace also
got on it but I am not sure if others did before it flew down and to the
left, and disappeared behind some brambles. We waited about another 45
minutes and it never reappeared. The area behind the brambles is near that
damp, low area which is itself behind the "dead" tree and the little
Sycamore where you saw it so this must be the Le Conte's stomping ground.
Unfortunately only a BVD view but we saw clearly the orange-buff super,
face, malar and upper breast, faint side striping, small size, short tail
and rather large-headed look.

Thanks for your help, we will try again for a better look if it stays
around...

Gail
