Howdy all,
The last two days of October were good days but it was the start of the
decrease on overall bird numbers here. We ended up banding 188 on the 30th and
123
on the 31st. GRAY CATBIRD numbers have really tapered off but HERMIT THRUSH
numbers have increased. We didn't catch a lot of odd stuff but we did catch a
later BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER on the 30th.
Here are the totals for the last two day of October:
30 Oct:
Winter Wren 1
Golden-crowned Kinglet 4
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 4
Brown Creeper 1
Carolina Chickadee 1
Western Palm Warbler 1
Black-throated Blue Warbler 1 getting late
Yellow-rumped Warbler 112
Field Sparrow 2
Slate-colored Junco 6
Swamp Sparrow 4
Song Sparrow 2
White-throated Sparrow 8
Eastern Towhee 1
Hermit Thrush 33 very nice total for a day
Gray Catbird 4
Sharp-shinned Hawk 1
American Robin 2
TOTAL ---------------------- 188
31 Oct:
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 6
Golden-crowned Kinglet 1
Brown Creeper 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler 66
Field Sparrow 5
Swamp Sparrow 5
White-throated Sparrow 13
Song Sparrow 13
Hermit Thrush 9
Gray Catbird 3
Cooper's Hawk 1
TOTAL --------------------------- 123
If this year has not already been super great, we ended October with a total
of 8,110 birds for the season!! The best season I have seen here (since 2001)
is only 8,026 and we still have three weeks to go!
Cheers,
Jethro Runco
