Well, make it three days in a row. I found my life LeConte's at Occoquan NRW
this morning in the same spot Kurt did yesterday, just before 8am. I had gone
down the road once without luck, turned around and was walking back when two
birds teed up on top of a grass stalk near the sycamore. One was the
LeConte's. I set up my scope and had 5 minutes of unobstructed views. It was
still in the scope when Rich Rieger, Paula Sullivan and Paul Kane showed up.
We watched the bird for another good 20 minutes as it moved around the
vicinity, finally settling in some kind of low, weedy plant that had white,
fluffy-looking seeds. The bird fed in this plant for quite some time,
sometimes dropping down out of sight. But when it moved up it again offered
fantastic, close up views. What a bird!
