Howdy all,
Today was more of a blow out than anything. The winds died almost right at
opening time but reappeared full throttle. Every net was in the wind and we
were tired of catching a million leaves, so we closed the station at 9:45. So
we only got in four hours of banding. During that time we managed to catch a
total of 46 individuals with no big surprises. The temps have dropped rapidly
and so I am hoping that there is a few birds around tomorrow if the rains hold
off. This is the time of year however that worries me. These latter fronts,
from what I have see here, tend to push out more yellow-rumps than they bring
in, therefore decreasing our daily totals. Sure hope the sparrow numbers keep
us busy!
Totals for 11/3:
Winter Wren 1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler 24
Yellow Palm Warbler 1
Swamp Sparrow 5
Song Sparrow 4
White-throated Sparrow 4
Eastern Towhee 2
Hermit Thrush 1
Northern Cardinal 2 I think this brings our season total to
80! 10 year high was only 58!
Sharp-shinned Hawk 1
TOTAL ----------------------- 46

I guess it's a wait and see what tomorrow brings. Both weather and birds! Hope
it's all good!

Cheers,
Jethro Runco
