VA Birders,
20 PURPLE FINCHES showed up at my feeders today here in Buchanan County. A
couple of PINE SISKINS competed with the GOLDFINCHES for the thistle seed. 4
COMMON GRACKLES bullied their way in and fed for awhile, before a bigger bully,
a gray squirrel ran them away. 2 female RED-WINGS were with the Grackles.
On a short walk around my trail I found another SWAMP SPARROW, several SONG and
WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS as well as a few CHIPPING SPARROWS. A couple of
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS fed low in the trees. One fed within about 4 feet of me
and gave me a chance for some good photos.
Enjoy the birds,
Roger Mayhorn
