[va-bird] Eagle & eel

No, its not a new political commercial. I just went out to get lunch and
observed an adult Bald Eagle carrying a large eel here in northern Suffolk.
I've seen Red-tails with snakes several times but this was a first. The
eagle seemed quite excited and made many low circles before finding a perch.
The whole time this large eel (roughly 3 feet long and probably 3 inch
thick!) was swinging wildly. I know a lot of people were looking AT ME as
I temporarily obstructed traffic as I tried to drive, watch the eagle, and
search for my bins under the seat.
This is in the area of Bennett's Creek which is between the Nansemond River
and Interstate I-664. Each winter we count several eagles on the Nansemond
CBC. While Bald Eagles are becoming more common every day I still have to
stop and marvel at a mature bird against a brilliant blue cloudless sky.
