Yesterday afternoon after the VSO board meeting my wife and I hiked up to
Humpback Rocks (Nelson/Augusta Co. line). As we were sitting at the summit
I heard a group of Pine Siskins fly overhead from north to south. I am
guessing they were diurnal migrants. The area is entirely hardwood forest,
not siskin habitat, so I don't think they were moving around locally.

I have also seen Purple Finches in Richmond after an absence of a number of
years and there are numerous reports eslewhere such as Jeff Blaclock's in S.
Boston.. Perhaps this will be a decent finch winter.
