VA Birders:
Yesterday (Friday, Nov. 7), I went to Roaches Run, Arlington Co., to see
if any Hooded Mergansers had come back yet. I did not find any ducks except a
few Mallards, but I did have a late Osprey and 2 Pied-billed Grebes on the
big pond across the G.W. Pkwy. from National Airport.
At Gravelly Point, just north of the airport, I had some Brown-headed
Cowbirds and a few Red-winged Blackbirds in with a flock of Starlings. This
was
perhaps the beginning of the big blackbird flock I have found there in
previous winters.
