I visited Staunton River Battlefield SP in Halifax/Charlotte counties
yesterday. There weren't as many sparrows around like last week but I
still managed a few good birds. Birds encountered included
Double-crested Cormorant, Great Blue Heron, Wood Duck, Mallard, Black
Vulture, Northern Harrier, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker,
Hairy Woodpecker, Northern Flicker, Pileated Woodpecker, Eastern Phoebe,
Golden-crowned Kinglet, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Eastern Bluebird, Brown
Thrasher, Hermit Thrush, Cedar Waxwing, Blue-headed Vireo, Common
Yellowthroat, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Eastern Towhee, Chipping Sparrow,
Song Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco,
American Goldfinch and Purple Finch ( 1 male and 3 females). Good
birding.
