[va-bird] Birds at Rural Retreat Lake

Today, Thursday, Nov 7, I made a morning trip to the lake and found
some good birds still there. While I was watching 4 Dunlin and 3 Greater
Yellowlegs, suddenly they became very excited and flew off out over the
lake, they had spotted a Peregrin Falcon come in low from the woodlot
beside the lake. There were still a good number of ducks on the lake:
Wood Duck 3, Lesser Scaup 12, Ruddy Duck 3, Green-wing Teal 15, Pied-bill
Grebe 4, Horned Grebe 1, along with the normal concentration of Mallard
and Canada Geese. Turkey & Black Vultures and 1 Red-tail Hawk were using
a small thermal over the western edge of the lake. Very few ground birds
were located due to the very windy conditions.
