[va-bird] Golden Eagle and American White Pelican at Cape Charles

After being laid up in bed for weeks with a leg injury, I ventured out to the
front porch yesterday, in weather less than optimal for most migrants, and
was pleased to see an Osprey (heading north) and a Golden Eagle, a young bird
(heading south), at surprisingly low height, in a few minutes of watching.
The eagle is a new "yard" bird; we see Bald Eagles from the front yard during
most weeks of the year.
Not to be outdone, Tom Pendleton came by the house a few minutes ago, quite
excited by the appearance of a southbound American White Pelican at the
intersection of Washington and Bay in Cape Charles proper! "I followed it
down along the street (Bay Avenue), and it flew over toward the golf course,
probably right over the house!" Tom told me.
Now talk about missing a good yard bird!
I'm told by Virginia Beach folks that the American White Pelican returned
three days ago to Lynnhaven Inlet, and it's possible that this is the same
individual. One bird wintering in the Cape Henry area was seen crossing to
the Wise Point area in near-total darkness about 15 miles offshore one day!
