[va-bird] Golden Day at Harvey's Knob

Harvey's Knob Hawkwatch had a good day
today with strong NW winds pushing the
raptors along the ridges. At about 3:30,
we had three immature Golden Eagles in the
air at the same time. With an earlier immature
and adult already counted, a single day record
for Harvey's ( subject to record scrutiny by
Dr. Holt) was set. This doubled our GE count
for the season and we are just barely into Nov.
Also of note was an Osprey sighting which is
a late date for Harvey's. The Red-taileds flowed
through, but they were not the only bird species
seen in large numbers. Once again we had large
groups of cormorants flying through with an
estimated 550 seen. If the winds keep up, we may
have good days throughout the weekend.
