Howdy all,
Well, we made it through the storm! Just barely, however. The timing was
really really bad for the birding festival. But there were lots of birds around
both Sat and Sun.
Because of the rain and the extremely high winds here, the banding station
didn't not operate Fri or Sat. We were there (somewhat) to answer questions but
no netting.
We did band on the 5th (Thur) and did ok. Best bird of the day was a WARBLING
VIREO with a really really deformed bill. It was only the 13th Warbling Vireo
ever banded at Kiptopeke. We also caught our first BROWN CREEPER of the
season that day too.
Here is are the totals:
10/5:
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1
Brown Creeper 1
Common Yellowthroat 1
Traill's Flycatcher 1
Warbling Vireo 1
Western Palm Warbler 1
Black-and-white Warbler 1
Indigo Bunting 1
Gray-cheeked Thrush 2
Gray Catbird 3
Northern Cardinal 1
Brown Thrasher 1
TOTAL ------------------------------------ 15
10/6:
Didn't band--bad weather
10/7:
Didn't band--bad weather again!
Cheers,
Jethro Runco
