[va-bird] Kiptopeke banding 10/4:Ugly forecast

Howdy all,
Today was a much slower day at the banding station than the last few days. We
finished with a total of 35 birds banded, but we had 20 species. We are
starting to see a shift of which type of migrants were are catching.
Neotropical
migrants are starting to wane while temperate migrants are starting to build.
So
it is an interesting time here on the shore.
The big news, and a sad one for me and a lot of other people is the weather
forecast for this weekend! The birding festival here on the shore starts on
Friday and runs through the weekend. The forecast has a good chance of rain for
all three days. That is not good. And it looks like the wind is going to be
just as bad. It will be a very rough weekend for the banding station. Those
weather conditions, there is no way we can open nets for banding. I do hope the
forecast changes, and fast!
Anyway, here are the totals for 10/4:
American Redstart 8
Northern Parula 1
Black-throated Blue Warbler 3
Western Palm Warbler 2
Common Yellowthroat 1
Ovenbird 1
Yellow-breasted Chat 1
Eastern Wood-pewee 1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1
White-eyed Vireo 1
Red-eyed Vireo 1
House Wren 3
Gray-cheeked Thrush 1
Wood Thrush 1
Gray Catbird 4
Song Sparrow 1
Northern Cardinal 1
Brown Thrasher 1
Blue Jay 2
TOTAL ----------------------------------- 35
Cheers,
Jethro Runco
