[va-bird] Re: woodpecker holes in my home

When I worked for an Audubon Center in Connecticut, we used to get a lot
of calls about woodpeckers drilling on people's homes. The Cornell
Laboratory of Ornithology is researching this problem and has an excellent
website about why the birds may be drilling, and some solutions (less
drastic than replacing your siding) for getting them to stop. A simple
solution is to temporarily float helium-filled mylar balloons in front of
the drilling site or to hang shiny, reflective streamers over the holes
until the woodpecker finds less intimidating haunts!

Good luck!

[va-bird] woodpecker holes in my home

Anyone know what to do about a woodpecker (probably a downy, although I
have yet to get a good look at him) drilling holes in the wooden siding on
my house?
