I share Suzanne's concern regarding the cost-benefit analysis of extensive
banding of passerine species. Given the extremely low recovery rates and the
fact that most migration and nesting data is already known, there is very
little
biological benefit to these banding programs. Hopefully, the environmental
education values to the public associated with the banding sites will balance
out any mortality and stress that may occur.
