[va-bird] King Rail, Kiptopeke Hawkwatch

Hola Birders,
Rails are on the Move!
This morning at a quarter to 7am a King Rail came flying up from the bay
towards the Kiptopeke Hawkwatch platform. In the poor light I think this
bird though the small piece of pavement in front was a pond and the bushes
on the side a marsh. That being said this bird flew in, attempted to land on
the platform railing but slipped off into a Wax Myrtle bush. As I ran over
to inspect it it got up and flew off the way it came in from. Certainly *the
* oddest thing I have seen from that platform!
Raptor totals are very low right now. This weather, although seemingly good
for King's is awful for migrant hawks. The combined total for the past four
days is not much more than 200. They'll come one day.
 Good birding,
-Sam
