This Saturday morning at Riverbend Pk meadow (Fairfax County) indeed felt
like fall, not so much because of the chilly temperature, but rather the stage
in
the fall migration. Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Flickers, E. Wood Pewees, and
Catbirds were the prominent migrants. Blue Jays were also more plentiful and
raucous. In addition, there was an influx of sparrows, mainly Swamp and Song,
but
also a White-throated, the first I've seen here this fall.
I only found 4 species of warblers: B-T Blue, Magnolia, Common Yellowthroat,
and a lone Nashville. Other sightings included R-S Hawk, Brown Thrasher, Y-B
Cuckoo, House Wren, E. Bluebird, Indigo Bunting, and most of the resident
birds.
Later in the morning, my yard pools/leaf mister attracted R-B Grosbeak,
Gray-Cheeked Thrush, Swainson's Thrush, Scarlet Tanager, a large flock of
Robins,
a B-T Blue Warbler and an Am. Redstart.
