Hello All,
There were nearly 20 people on this morning's walk along a section of the W&OD
Trail. The walk was sponsored by Reston Association and Fairfax Audubon Society.
We started at Sunrise Valley ES and walked east for a mile or so and then back.
Highlights of the 27 species spotted included up close and frequent looks at:
BLACK THROATED BLUE WARBLER, we're not sure if we saw more than one, but there
was at least one male who was still as colorful as you find in the field
guides.
RED CROWNED AND GOLDEN CROWNED KINGLETS
HERMIT THRUSH
AMERICAN BLUEBIRDS a male and female flitting around the school grounds
WHITE THROATED SPARROW probably more than one
This is usually a productive stretch of the trail. The only drawback is keeping
one eye open for bikers, joggers, and rollerbladers while keeping the other eye
open for birds!
Bev Smith led the walk and, along with Carolyn Badila, we helped.
