Greetings to all:
Following are some recent sightings from Halifax County.
Friday Oct 08, 2004 - Backyard
Brown Creeper -1, first one seen for this fall
Friday Oct 08, 2004 - Hwy 501S of South Boston
Peregrine Falcon -1
Saturday Oct 09, 2004 - Backyard
Swainson's Thrush - 1
Gray-cheeked Thrush - 1
(Note that this is the second weekend in a row that I had both the Swainson's
and GC Thrush in my yard.)
Also on Saturday, I had a Carolina Chickadee to fly into a spider web and
became trapped in mid-flight. At first it looked like it was not going to get
free, so I quickly went outside to help but by the time I got outside it had
flown off.
I also had a Blue Jay feeding on seeds in the backyard and after it ate two to
three seeds, it would bury one in the ground and then pick up a leaf and place
it over the burial spot. I was able to see it do this about a dozen times.
Too bad I going to have to get up the leafs soon.
Good birding always
