Does anyone have a program on birds for these senior citizens?

Subject: Request for presentations or workshops

Hello,

Some of you have already met me, but for those I've not been in contact with
yet, I'm Amber Hollingsworth with the Campagna Center's Retired and Senior
Volunteer Program in Alexandria. Once a month, RSVP goes to three or four
different senior centers in the area to do outreach programs -- mostly relating
to the environment and nature. I'm beginning to put together my calendar for
the 2005 outreach year, and I would love to bring in more organizations to give
presentations or do workshops with these seniors. They absolutely love to learn
new things or build new skills that have to do with the world around them. For
example, in November, RSVP member Mary Hastings will be giving a slideshow
presentation on the trees of Fort Ward Park and how to identify them. Last
month, a ranger from the National Park Service gave a presentation on the war
history of Fort Hunt. We've done nature journaling, birdhouse building, and
even had a presentation from the Raptor Conservancy of Virginia with
non-releasable birds.

I'm writing in hopes of finding more nature-related programs for the seniors to
participate in at these locations next year. If you know of someone in your
group who could do a workshop, or if you have any recommendations for other
groups who might be willing to participate, please pass that information along
to me so I can start planning. The workshops don't have to be elaborate by any
means -- we visit three or four different centers for an hour each, usually
between 10:00 a.m. and noon on weekdays, and present to around 40 seniors. I'm
open to any ideas or suggestions you might have, and I greatly appreciate your
response.

Sincerely,

Amber Hollingsworth
