Hello, birders. I forgot to turn my alarm on last night before I went to bed
so by the time I got to Mason Neck it was mid-morning. About the only
migratory songbird I had was a GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET near the Visitor Center.
5 BALD EAGLES and an OSPREY were about and both VULTURE species were soaring
overhead. A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER has been reported from the Bayview Trail but
we didn't find it on our walk. I ran into Jodi, the park interpreter, as well
as a couple of guys from The Nature Conservancy who were in DC on business. We
enjoyed IDing birds and trees together. Most trees still sport green leaves
but the tupelos are turning red.
