[va-bird] Leesylvania SP & Metz Wetlands, PrWm Co. 10/1/04

A beautiful morning to be out, but not terribly birdy. At Leesylvania, I
had 18 NORTHERN FLICKERS and assorted singletons: RED-HEADED WOODPECKER,
YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, VEERY, NASHVILLE WARBLER, SCARLET TANAGER,
ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK, and WHITE-THROATED SPARROW.
At Julie Metz there were plenty of AMERICAN ROBINS (56), small flocks of
southbound BLUE JAYS passing overhead, SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, PALM WARBLER, and
3 SWAMP SPARROWS.
On the drive home, I was a bit surprised to find a SNOW GOOSE (with ~ 15
not-so-surprising CANADA GEESE) in the grassy cloverleaf of the Edsall Road
West exit off of 395 North (Frfx Co.). The goose seemed quite tolerant of
the many dump trucks regularly rumbling by.
