I spent a good part of the day at Staunton River State Park in Halifax
County. It was an awesome day for hiking the trails. Some of the birds
I saw during my walk included Double-crested Cormorant, Great Blue
Heron, Canada Goose, Black Vulture, Red-tailed Hawk, Red-headed
Woodpecker (1 adult and 5 juveniles), Red-bellied Woodpecker, Downy
Woodpecker, Hairy Woodpecker, Pileated Woodpecker, Northern Flicker,
Eastern Phoebe, Carolina Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse, White-breasted
Nuthatch, Carolina Wren, Wood Thrush, Red-eyed Vireo, Black-throated
Blue Warbler, Pine Warbler (many), American Redstart, Yellow-rumped
Warbler, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Eastern Bluebird and Scarlet Tanager.
Good birding.
