VA Birders,
The cold weather brought some waterfowl to the Piedmont this week. I
noted the first Gadwall and Ring-necked Ducks of the fall at Airlie.
Also, a male Eurasian Wigeon was present on a private lake near Airlie
today. This is the ninth year a Eurasian Wigeon has been in that area
for the winter. A single Greater White-fronted Goose was in a flock of
450 Canadas at another private lake near Airlie. If this winter is the
same as others, this flock will stay a few days at one lake and then
move to another. The lake on Harrison Road is a likely spot to look in
the future to find this bird.
