Howdy VA-Birders

I haven't been out birding much with the students
lately.  Instead, our field trips have been
focused on other topics (box turtles, plant
identification, salamanders and bears, spiders
(we found 3 black widows and some
recently-hatched black widowlings, edible plants,
insects of goldenrod and Bidens fields, etc) but
below are some recent bird highlights.

We will be doing our annual Bird-a-thon on Monday
October 14.  If any of you would like to
contribute we would really appreciate it.  Also
if you want to lead your own team for this
bird-a-thon, that would be great too.  We use 50%
of the money for our own conservation projects
(Bluebird trail, plantings, etc) and give 50% to
a conservation organization (last year to
Virginia Nature Conservancy). Please let me know
if you'd be interested in helping.

1 Lincoln's Sparrow
1 rose-breasted grosbeak
1 sharp-shinned hawk

Friday Sept 20 @ Flint Hill Campus
