It's October (feels like July) and the hawks are movin' albeit slower than
hoped for. Yesterday's total was 304, which was great considering the blue
skies, warmth and southerly winds. Today was a little better, with many
sharpies and kestrels on the move. I'd like to think that the upcoming weather
system will stir some movement, maybe even get some adult accips our way.

As for trapping, things are keeping pace with the hawkwatch. On the first, a
nice sampling of our raptors was banded, with Cooper's, Merlin, N. Harrier and
Peregrine paying visits. The lucky folks on the platform this day had quite a
treat as all these birds eventually were brought up for impromptu
demonstrations. So, even on the seemingly dull days, birds can be caught and
seen up close. So, don't be shy, come on down to the park and you just might
get an up-close look at some of the most amazing birds around. (Oh, yeah. The
passerines back at Jethro's station are awful neat as well.)
