Rich Rieger and I birded Leesylvania State Park this morning from 7 to 11am.
We had a great morning, with 71 species, including 16 warblers, including
Tennessee (2), Nashville, Parula (6), yellow, chestnut-sided (4), magnolia (3),
Cape May, blackburnian, pine, palm, black-and-white (5), American redstart (6),
ovenbird, common yellowthroat (3), Wilson's, and yellow-breasted chat. Other
notables were bunches of yellow-billed cuckoos (14), summer tanager, scarlet
tanager (4), blue grosbeak, warbling vireo, yellow-bellied flycatcher (2),
baltimore oriole (8), bank swallow, and wood thrush. Hotbeds of activity were
the hill below the ruin, the road near the ranger's house, and the area around
the beaver dam.
