I checked out the Potomac River at both Riverbend and Great Falls NP on
Sunday morning for lingering storm refugees finding 3 BLACK TERNS at
Riverbend.
Without any better luck, I continued my search southward along the Potomac to
Riverside Park near Mt. Vernon spotting a few FORSTER'S and CASPIAN TERNS
and LAUGHING GULLS along the way. BANK SWALLOWS and 2 LITTLE BLUE HERON were
the best finds at Huntley Meadows. I only saw one shorebird there, a lone
GREATER YELLOWLEGS. Lots of snakes, atop grasses and plants, were easily
observable all along the boardwalk.
Back home, the sun came out mid afternoon and a mini wave of land migrants
appeared at the leaf mister and bird pools. Warblers includes 1 BLACKBURNIAN
1 NASHVILLE,
1 PARULA, 2 MAGNOLIA, 2 BLACK AND WHITE, and 2 AMERICAN REDSTARTS. A VEERY
and a BALTIMORE ORIOLE also made an appearance.
