Hello all
This past Saturday 16 members & friends of the Augusta Bird Club had a field
trip on Rt. 610 & the Blue Ridge Parkway . We netted a total of 39 species of
birds with 8 of the total species being Warblers . By far the best bird of the
day was a Philadelphia Vireo . The other three Vireo's were White -- eyed , Red
-- eyed & Blue Headed . Of the Warblers we had Nashville , Magnolia ( the one
that sang only part of its song ) , Black -- throated Green , Blackburnian ,
Redstart ,Common Yellowthroat ,Hooded ,& Canada . Also everyone got to see
first hand a good number of Ruby - throated Hummingbirds settling in on feeding
on jewel weed blooms . During our outing we counted 34 for the day . Once we
got back to the Hawk watch I asked the counter for the day to keep a total of
what they see flying thru . They counted a total of 14 for the day . Back in
Staunton I added another 5 . So all in all for the day of Sept . 3 we had a
peak count of 53 R T Hummers. Not a bad day of bird watching in Augusta County .
