Things were kind of slow at Occoneechee State Park in Mecklenburg County
this morning. Migrant warblers were pretty scarce but a few nice birds
were encountered including Double-crested Cormorant, Great Blue Heron,
Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Red-headed Woodpecker,
Red-bellied Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, Pileated Woodpecker,
Great-crested Flycatcher, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Fish Crow,
White-breasted Nuthatch, Brown-headed Nuthatch, Cedar Waxwing, Red-eyed
Vireo, Yellow-throated Vireo, Northern Parula, Blackburnian Warbler,
Prairie Warbler, Black and White Warbler, American Redstart, Summer
Tanager, Scarlet Tanager and Chipping Sparrow. The cool autumn-like
weather was very refreshing. Good birding.
