[va-bird] Cold front's passage

The cold front that passed last night has brought in a great many new
arrivals in southern Northampton County this morning. Hundreds of Bobolinks
and
Eastern Kingbirds were passing south and north, respectively, at Sunset Beach
at
dawn today, and many dozens of American Redstarts, Red-eyed Vireos, and
Baltimore Orioles were also northbound there. Great Crested Flycatchers,
Black-throated Green and Magnolia Warblers, and Summer Tanagers were present in
smaller
numbers, also here in Cape Charles. Caspian Tern's numbers are also up.
At the field at Wheat Lane and Arlington Rd (644), hundreds of shorebirds are
still present after the front and last night's very heavy rains, with
increases noted in Buff-breasted Sandpiper (5) this morning and in Killdeer,
but most
other shorebirds were in lower numbers at 0745 this morning. The habitat is
still good for shorebirds, though it's much wetter than yesterday. I was
surprised to see no birders looking for the Sharp-tailed Sandpiper there, but
then
I realized that most VSO members had seen the bird at Chincoteague on the
field trip there. I'll probably take a break today to look for this bird again
and post results here.
