[va-bird] Leonard's Pond

I stopped at Leonard's Pond too yesterday "on my way home." Probably I
was there 1.5 or 2.0 hours after John Irvine was there. I didn't find the
Baird's Sandpiper or the golden-plover either. But it was interesting to
me that some things had changed even in that short time. For example John
didn't find any Least Sandpipers but I saw five, some of them very close
to the road where John wouldn't have missed them. While I was there three
of them took off and appeared to head southeast. They didn't return while
I was there. Also I noted with more interest that there are now three
shovelers there. They seem early and three makes them seem more early
than just one. (Don't ask me to explain that in scientific terms.) I saw
two yellowlegs, one of which I thought was a Lesser. The point that I am
making is that things apparently change pretty quickly out there. Birds
come and go in the daytime as well as at night. Keep your eyes open.
