VA Birders,
Tuesday morning birding started early, when I glanced out the kitchen window
around 7:30 to see a BlUE-WINGED, a BLACK-THROATED GREEN and a TENNESSEE
WARBLER feeding in the cherry tree just outside.

I quickly grabbed the binos and camera and headed for the backyard. Bird
activity was frenetic with warblers and Vireos flying in all directions. A
WORM-EATING WARBLER peered at me from a shrub just to my right. I eased my
camera up and took this photo.

chasing each other from tree to tree. Two birds landed in the apple tree in
the center of the backyard. With the binos they turned out to be two 1st.
year BLACKBURNIANS.

A few moments later a female REDSTART was in the same tree. A male
BLACK-THROATED GREEN flew to the top of the walnut tree to my left.
A female MAGNOLIA WARBLER fed in one of the locust trees. Moments later a
female CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was feeding in one of the cherry trees near
the edge of the yard. Two BLUE-HEADED VIREOS hopped around in the top of the
walnut tree. One was feeding the other.

A total of 8 TENNESSEE WARBLERS fed in different areas around the yard, and
I had to look closely to distinguish them from the 6 RED-EYED VIREOS. A
WHITE-EYED VIREO called from across the road in the neighbor's pasture. An
EASTERN WOOD PEWEE made a brief appearance in the lower branches of the
apple tree. A YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER was flycatching insects from the top
of a White Pine until it was chased away by a RED-EYED VIREO.
Another BLUE-WINGED suddenly showed up in the same shrub where the
WORM-EATING had been just minutes before. I managed to get this photo before

36 species was the total number in the yard for the day. For those
