Subject: Wind Energy Development 1-3 miles offshore E Shore Wildlife
Refuge

Corps of Engineers comment period for Winergy's permit proposal of 150
windturbines of over 400 feet high covering 25 square miles between 1
and 3 miles east of Smith Island, Va, ends Sept 5 - THIS FRIDAY.

Please ask for a FULL Environmental Impact Statement.

THIS MAY BE THE ONLY CHANCE TO COMMENT ON THIS PROPOSAL unless there is
sufficient concern generated by comments. We know this is a KEY
MIGRATION ROUTE for millions of songbirds, hundreds of thousands of
raptors, and is a winter feeding area for Arctic breeding sea and shore
birds, not to mention the species which nest, breed, and feed there in
the summer. The mirgating Monarch Butterfly, and possibly bats may also
be affected. It is also a key area for sea turtles and marine mammals
including dophin, whales and seals. This area is of world wide
importance for migratory birds, a region designated by the United
Nations as an International Biosphere Reserve, and an area currently
designated for study as a US National Marine Sanctuary.

Please send comments today to Richard.E.Henderson@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
or Rick Henderson, Norfolk District, Corps of Engineers Attn CENAO-TS-G,
803 Front St, Norfolk, Va 23510-1096
