I also participated in opening day of dove season in the town of Catlett, Va.
While spending several hours sitting on the edge of a tree row overlooking
the corn field I observed Lots of high flocks of black birds, barn swallows,
several turkey vultures, one resting in a tree over my head, cooper's hawk,
gold
finches, phoebes, hummingbird, blue birds, many dragon flies, many cicadas,
giant grasshoppers and several 2" argiope spiders with cicadas caught in their
webs. And a few doves.
