Hi all....
My wife and I made a trip to Hog Island today, unfortunately, the refuge was
closed to the public for a special goose hunt this morning. also dove Hunting
started at noon today. If the American White Pelican was still around I know he
took off when the first goose was fired at. There was a posting on bulletin
board on dove hunting at the Carlisle tract. It will being going for the month
of September on Wed and Sat. at noon. Also Oct 8 to Nov 8, Dec 31 to Jan 10
Daily. There will be special deer and water foul hunting the rest of the year.(
There is no hunting on Sunday!)
The were only hunting on Hog Island, so we were able to bird the Rd going
to the Boat Ramp on the Carlisle tract. We found some nice birds I had never
birded the area in the morning, it was just a quick stop on the way out of Hog.
Highlights Chestnut Sided , Prairie, Northern Parula and Pine Warblers,
Red-eyed Vireos everywhere , Baltimore Oriole, Scarlet tanagers, 3 different
Flycatchers one was a Great- Crested. I don't even want to guess at the other
two. also Bald
Eagle, lot of Blue-Gray gnatcatchers Wood-ducks and 8 Juvenile Wild Turkeys.
