[va-bird] Heermann's Gull confirmed

The photograph from Bill Moskoff taken 13 August 2003 at Chincoteague does
indeed show an adult Heermann's Gull. This bird was just a few miles from
Maryland, so regional birders should keep eyes peeled. This is Virginia's
second
and first for the Atlantic coastline of North America.
A note from Paul Buckley: "an adult Pacific Golden-Plover molting out of
breeding plumage was found this morning on the flats at Mecox Bay, Southampton,
LI, New York by Hugh McGuinness and Andy Baldelli, later seen by A.J. Lauro.
This is an expected new species for New York State, and follows closely on New
Jersey's first in 2001 and Massachusetts's first in 2002." One could surely be
in with American Golden-Plovers in any field in Virginia!
