At About 10:00 AM today four adult Golden Plover joined three Pectoral
Sandpipers at the pond along Smiths Switch Rd. where the Baird's Sandpipers
were seen about a week ago. They stayed briefly and then flew off the the
nearby sod ridges to the east. A few minutes later they returned to the pond
for a short while until spooked by a person walking along the road. I was
pleased to have the identification confirmed by none other that Jonathan
Alderfer, illustrator of this and many other birds in the third edition of the
National Geographic Field Guide to Birds of North America. Also seen were
Killdeer, Black Vulture and about five Horned Larks.
