VA Birders,

This evening at 6:55 p.m. I saw a Buff-breasted Sandpiper on the Culpeper
County side of the Woodward turf farm near Remington. It was foraging in an
area where sod had been recently cut, although it occasionally ventured into
the short-mown grass adjacent to the newly exposed dirt (incidentally, it was
the only shorebird I saw there feeding in the grass at all).

Also present were 11 Pectoral Sandpipers, 1 Semipalmated Plover, and 80 or so
Killdeer. All the birds are quite a way from the road, so a scope is necessary.

To reach this area from Rt. 29 just southwest of Remington (on the Culpeper
County side of the Rappahannock River), take Rt. 15/29 Business, then go south
on Rt. 673 for 1.1 miles. There is room to pull off on the southeast side of
the road at the large bend. The shorebirds have been foraging in the bare dirt
on the southeast side of Rt. 673.

Good birding,

Steve Rottenborn
