Bart,
      Your swifts were probably at Rockfish Gap last night.  See Brenda
Tekin's post about the massive flight of nighthawks which also included
thousands of Chimney Swifts.
      Tuesday evening when I had my huge flight of nighthawks  I also saw
lots of swifts moving over Fairfax City.
