arrived about 0940 this morning to find one group of 8 towards the
Woodward Turf Farm sign, and another 3 close to the line with the
neighboring Remington Turf Farm. also a number of E. Meadowlarks, and a
few Horned Larks. then drove down Grassdale to see a Red-tailed Hawk
apparently fly from a pole, appearing at first to be chased by a
Kestrel, but the Kestrel caught up with & passed the Red-tail, & they
both landed in trees about a quarter mile from where they started. one
juvenile Red-headed Woodpecker on one of the utility poles running up
the drive to the northwest -- the one that is much paler than the
others. heard a Dickcissel at the corner of Grassdale & Sumerduck, but
checked most of the sites identified by Todd Day a week ago & could not
see one, or even hear another -- but by 1030 it was over 90 degrees, in
addition to a week further into August.
