[va-bird] Re: peaceful co-habitation with swifts

This weekend I attended a party where the hosts were the unhappy hosts of
chimney swift nests. They were new to the experience and are looking for ways
to host the birds again next year but with less inconvenience to them.
It is a rental place in old town Alexandria -- the landlord refuses to clean
the chimneys.

So, when the birds moved around inside the chimney, soot dropped into the
fireplace. I don't know if the flue was shut or not.

Does anyone have ideas for how to insulate these hosts from the noise and mess
of swifts without being bad hosts?

I have Chimney Swifts nesting in the large chimney above the wood stove
insert in our family room. I believe there is 12 and they really chatter at
times.
They're around all day but mainly in the morning and evening. Dave White Zion
