Today I decided to take Paula Sullivan's suggestioin of checking Cameron
Run at the intersection of Bluestone and Eisenhauer Ave. for dowitchers.
Upon arriving at about 11:30 a.m. in a light drizzle, I got the warm-up
acts of
several spotted sandpipers and (greater?) yellowlegs and one great egret,
but no dowitchers. So, I strolled down the bikepath and it began to
rain harder and suddenly there were the headliners -- THREE long-billed
dowitchers in their lovely russet plummage.
Then, when I walked back to the first
group of shorebirds, there were two more! I wonder if the hard rain had
brought them down. Anyway, it was great observing them rather up close
and personal. -- No scope necessary.
