VA BIRDers,
A few hardy birders made it out to Dyke Marsh last Sunday for the regular 
Field Trip (sponsored by the Friends of Dyke Marsh and free to all, meet at 8 
am 
in the picnic area).  Despite the threatening weather it was a splendid 
outing.  For those of us who arrived a bit early and went to Hunting Creek 
mudflats, 
the top bird was a Stilt Sandpiper, previously found by Marc Ribaudo the day 
before.  Along the trail the top bird was a male Prothonotary Warbler which 
readily pished in - and then was joined by an American Redstart and a Northern 
Parula!

Other birds of interest Sunday were Least Bittern feeding in the spadderdock 
along the dogleg, an adult Bald Eagle (looks like eagle migration has 
started), three hendersonii Short-billed Dowitchers on the mudflats, about 30 
Chimney 
Swift, at least 8 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, an E. Wood Pewee displaying its 
sally technique, a half-dozen E. Kingbirds, one singing Warbling Vireo and 2 
others going "meeezzhhh", Purple Martins, Tree Swallows, No. Rough-winged 
Swallows, Barn Swallows, a House Wren, several Marsh Wrens, many Gray Catbirds, 
singing Yellow Warbler and 2 HY birds, an E. Towhee, a couple of Indigo 
Buntings, 
a few Orchard Orioles, and one Baltimore Oriole in the trees near the 
shorebirds.
