[va-bird] Swallow-tailed Kite Not but ...

VA Birders,
I received a report from Erika Wilson, who went to the Marriott Ranch
today, in hopes of getting a better look at the Swallow-tailed Kite, that she
did not see the kite, and others who were there earlier apparently did not
see it either. However, at least 2 men who were there early believed they
had seen a Eurasian Collared-Dove on the wires with a large group of Mourning
Doves. Erika said she stayed until noon, hoping to see one or both birds,
but she did not. She also said that the doves were not on the wires when she
was there; we did not see them there on Thursday morning, when we arrived
about 10:00 am, either.
When Joanna Taylor and I first went to the ranch last Wednesday, we
arrived about 4:30 pm, and we noticed a large group of doves on the wires
while we were there. I scanned them briefly and did not notice anything
unusual. I would suggest that anyone who might want to look for a Eurasian
Collared-Dove on the ranch should go early or late, because that seems to be
when the doves are on the wires.
