Just a note of caution to anyone going to see the Kite - there are a few
cattle grates on the road in to the Marriott Ranch - I went over the first
one a little too fast - just as you turn in to the ranch - and bottomed out -
guess I'm a city-slicker now...The Kite put on a great display from 1:30 P -
3:00 P on Sunday - mostly to the west, but at one point gliding almost
directly overhead.
Got back to Alexandria for low tide at Hunting Creek and from the bridge w/
help from Mr. Gaskill, located one W. Phalarope on the mudflats - decided to
try for a better look from the weeds and bumped in to Sue Heath - we were
able to locate two Phalaropes near a mesh net that seems to be teathered
along the north edge of the mudflat...Rich Rieger
