[va-bird] Craney Island this am

Jerry Uhlman, Mike Iwanik (and his friend Vickie) and I met up with David
Hughes this am at 8 to bird Craney. It was the driest I've ever seen it
there, with just a few scattered puddles and pools of water. While we totaled
45 species, numbers were very, very low with the exception of Ospreys and a
flock of about 20 Brown Pelicans. The most numerous were Least and S-P
Sandpipers, but we're not talking about many birds. Birds of note were:
Pectoral (4-5) and Stilt (1) Sandpipers, S-B Dow (1), Willet (1), Sanderling
(1), Ruddy Turnstone (1), no Terns except Caspian (8-10), Great Blue (1), and
2 immature T-C Herons. We also had 2 R-T Hawks, 1 Cooper's, and 1 Kestrel. We
did not refind the Stint, obviously, nor Avocets or B-N Stilts, and were
overall struck by how few birds there were in general. Craney desperately
needs rain.
